Infinity ROM

Here is the ROM Retrokid223 and I have been working on. This is a Gingerbread ROM for the DROID Charge (SCH-i510) based on the latest available leak, the EP1W build. The ROM is mostly stock, with only a few non-TouchWiz apps. The reason the TouchWiz apps were left in place is due to their increased functionality (for the most part) over their AOSP equivalents. To make things look good, Retrokid223 did a great job with theming, and ported the TouchWiz 4 look for the Samsung Galaxy S II and got rid of the generally ugly orange and brown color scheme that is the default. On top of all of that, a few graphical updates were made to enable the CRT Off animation as well as the over scroll glow effect. More options for restarting the phone were also added to the power menu that shows up when you long press the power button, for easy access to recovery, and should you need it (lets hope not), download mode.

Then, what good would a ROM be if all we had was the stock kernel to run it on? While not much can be done, a few tweaks were made to help keep things nice and snappy for the user without hindering the overall performance or functionality. A few settings were changed related to memory management to try and keep unused apps out of memory. The kernel will also auto-root your phone on boot (if not already rooted), you just need to install Superuser from the market. To help speed things along, the kernel compression for the ramdisk was reduced so you spend less time waiting for your phone to start up and more time using it. To make the system a little faster, EXT4 support was also added for the four primary partitions on the phone as well (/system, /data, /dbdata, & /cache). To top it all off, the SDCard read ahead setting was changed to help with transferring things to or from your SDCard.

What all of this adds up to is a slimmed down ROM that retains all of the usefulness of the stock ROM, but gets rid of many of the unused things that carriers like to throw in that no one ever uses. And, with all of those small changes and removed programs, you get a slightly faster running phone with less battery wasted on programs and services you’ll never use. Now, since you’re likely bored with reading this, here is the Cliff Notes version.

    stable. works great.
Issue when using 4.0.4.1 CWM to ‘backup’ – system is content is lost. All the is saved is rom related. One error message about no sd-ext. It did not seem to be important at the time. The only solution was a reload of 9-23 rom and apps.
