Continuum Love
2The Samsung Continuum is a phone that initially had great promise from both Verizon Wireless and Samsung. They did a lot of heavy advertising for it before the holiday season in 2010, only to stop promptly after the holiday season due to terrible sales numbers. A few months later, they were practically giving them away. The little phone that could is essentially a Samsung Fascinate with the unique feature of a ticker for updates. Great in principle, but not so much in practice as an SDK never came out for the ticker and you can only use it with stock Samsung apps. However, that hasn’t stopped a handful of users from trying to make the most of the phone.
A few months ago, it saw a leak of Froyo from yours truly, which will likely never see the light of day in any official capacity. Then, last month, another Froyo leak came out, this one was build EC07 and looks to be the equivalent of ED05 for the Fascinate as it is Android 2.2.2. Since source has never been released for these builds, and my attempts at making the Fascinate source work have failed, I decided to show the Continuum users some love by hacking the stock kernel that came with EC07, much like I did for the Charge with the EP1Q and EP1W builds. While not much can be done, anything is better than nothing. (more…)
Infinity ROM Beta Now Posted
2Well, we got most of the bugs fixed, and that means that the beta is ready for everyone. A lot has changed since the last release of the ROM, with only a few things left to go before the ROM is final and just getting minor updates and bug fixes. This will be the first release that is a TSM Production as well, which means that you get TSM parts, and we’ve decided to name the ROM as well, which you can see in the title. The TSM features are currently incomplete with it as we have a few more to work on, but those will come in the non-beta release. I’ll try to list all of the changes from the last public build here after the break. (more…)
Beta Coming
2Now that nearly everything is ready to go with the ROM update, a public beta will be released soon. Once I can get the Browser fixed and re-themed, I’ll likely upload the beta and post it for people to try out. I may also replace the email client and add in a music player for the next release. The email client included has been having force close issues for people, so hopefully the new apk doesn’t have these problems. And the music player will be so you can use the lock screen music controls, if you choose to do so. The only thing that should be missing from the beta will be the toggles for the status bar icons (alarm, battery, & signal strength). The icons are put into the status bar in a vastly different way than on the Froyo builds we have, and also different compared to how they are done on the Fascinate, so merging in the TSMParts code to hide them is a little difficult.
All Lock Screens are Done
0There was a lingering issue with the SGSII lock screen where it wasn’t working. Not only was it not working, but if you selected it, you would be stuck in an endless hot-boot loop until you wiped your data. I haven’t had to much time to troubleshoot the issue this week, so I didn’t want to put my phone into a loop without knowing I had time to fix it. Well, I had some time this morning and was able to catch the initial error in logcat that led me to the problem. My initial logcat that I got the first time I tested it gave me no useful information as to what the problem was, but I got the initial error this time and found a messed up resource ID causing the issue. Fixed up the bad ID, pushed the new android.policy.jar and restarted. Came up to see the working SGSII lock screen.
To go with that, some apps have been updated as well to the latest available AOSP versions (2.3.7) from the update that the Nexus S 4G recently received. Many of the problems have been fixed, but unfortunately, the problem with email is still there, as is the laggy browser. Now that the lock screens are all working, I’ll go back and try to fix the browser issue, as I believe I can get that done rather quickly then. I have received a few logcats of the email problem, but can’t really pin it down to say “this is the cause and here is the fix” so that may still be around in the update. Hopefully though, we get everything fixed up and ready for a weekend release, though it all depends on how easy or hard it is to implement the last remaining items of TSM parts and get the few other bugs fixed.
TeamSbrissenMod
0As many can see in yesterday’s update, TSM parts is coming to our ROM. To go along with that, we were also invited to join the team. Given the great work they do, and all that Sbrissen is still doing, it is great to join the group. This means that when the update finally does arrive, it will be a TSM Production and be one of an ever expanding list of ROMs from the group that spreads across several different devices.
Almost There
2The long awaited update is almost ready to go. Along with fixing problems, we’ve added a lot of stuff, and there are just a few bugs left before it is ready to go. While I’m sure that no one liked the wait, I’m hoping that once you see what all has changed, you’ll be happy with it. Here are a few images of what is to come

Update Pushed Back
0As with all software, sometimes you run into problems when attempting to fix things. Such is the case tonight. We initially planned to update the EP1W ROM at some point this weekend. Most things were ready to go, but unfortunately, we ran into some last minute problems that we had hoped to be easier to fix than what ended up happening. However, the update will still be here, and hopefully be more of an update than initially planned. We have been hard at work on new features to go with the bug fixes. What we are hoping is that all of the features that we’ve been hard at work on this past week are ready to go when we do get around to updating. What I can say is that I flashed the latest public version today, and feel bad that it is what is currently stable and available, because the updates that we have are quite nice.
Feedback Wanted
2Now that everyone has had a day to use the latest release of our EP1W ROM, it would be great if we could get some feedback on it. While most people I’ve chatted with have liked it, I also want to here what people don’t like so that we can make things better. Also, if people are experiencing issues, we need to know about them as well. Currently, there is a known issue with the Browser, but that is it. There has to be more bugs than that, so please people, let us know what they are. To go along with that, please report bugs in a manner that makes it easy for us to troubleshoot. Include as much information as you can, and provide a logcat as well if you are getting force closes. Logcat outputs simplify debugging immensely. To go with that, if you see a graphic problem, try to get a screenshot of it, and if that doesn’t work, a camera shot or video would work as well. The ROM is only as good as you, the users help us make it, and by leaving bugs unreported, it can slow down progress.
Speaking of progress, there are a few new things coming along in the next update, likely to be this coming weekend. A slight change to the kernel was made, though nothing major. Also, Retrokid223 added another pull-down toggle and also made the notification pull-down transparent (partially). The accurate battery mod has been changed, as well as getting a smooth charging animation. I’m sure more will be changed as the week goes on, but those are the updates for now. Now, start finding bugs and problems and getting us logcats.
Update coming
0Retrokid223 and I have been hard at work today to bring an update out for the EP1W ROM that was released yesterday,(see here). The theme has been updated to try and get rid of the rest of the Brown/Orange stock theme and make things more closely match the Samsung Galaxy S II stock theme (TouchWiz 4). A few of the apps have also been re-themed to match the TW4 look better. There is now the CRT off animation, accurate battery mod, and over-scroll glow. To go with all of this, I’ve also gotten reboot options setup. The Browser.apk is still an issue with lag, but I’m working on trying to find a fix for that issue as well. I’ll just end with a quick screenshot

Welcome
0I decided to get web hosting and create a website to host all of my work. This will hopefully make it easier for people to download files, and also keep track of updates to things.
